Guidance for Weather and Climate Services through Participatory Approach

The objective of these programmes is to make farmers become more self-reliant in dealing with weather and climate issues that affect agricultural production on their farms and to increase the interaction between the farmers and the Agrometeorological Service providing agencies Such programs help increase the interaction between the local farming communities and the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), and different service providers to the farming communit

Roving Seminar
  1. Roving seminars have proven benefits to farmers and for improvement of products and services and communications.
  2. The seminars optimally benefit from full co-operation between National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), and local agricultural extension services with the active involvement of the agricultural research personnel from research stations or agricultural universities in a region.
  3. The seminars promote interactive discussions, in local languages.

Climate Farmer Field Schools
  1. To empower farmers with knowledge and skills to make them experts in their own fields.
  2. To sharpen the farmers ability to make critical and informed decisions that render their farming profitable and sustainable
  3. To sensitize farmers in new ways of thinking and problem solving
  4. Help farmers learn how to organize themselves and their communities.

Field Day
  1. Exhibitions can be arranged to raise their awareness about the future impact of weather and climate on agriculture and daily life.
  2. Demonstrations highlighting various production systems including agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry in relation to weather and climate services in the above sectors.

Farmer’s Club
For transmitting the latest agrometeorology techniques to the Farmers' field, orienting them to establish adoption of latest post-harvest handling technology, value addition, etc. and enjoy the benefits of collective bargaining power both for procuring inputs and select their produce the Farmers' Club Programme is an appropriate and most suitable strategy.
