Livestock plays a significant role in the economy of any country, especially in rural areas. Animal husbandry activities are very sensitive to climate and weather condition. The various climatic factors viz temperature, relative humidity, air velocity and rainfall have direct and indirect influence on the productivity of the farm animals. Hence it is imperative on the part of technical professionals involvedin animal production to fully understand the influence of these climatic factors on productivity of farm animals in order to evolve suitable management practices for sustaining their productivity
However, heat and cold stresses can have a severe impact on their health and productivity. It is necessary to investigate the distribution of the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and identify areas of maximum vulnerability for dairy animals in in terms of their respiration, reproduction, and milk production. There is a need to analyze the monthly, seasonal, and annual mean THI spatial distribution over a place . Identify the areas with the highest THI values, indicating discomfort for the livestock and assess the impact of THI on the respiratory rate, reproduction, and milk production of dairy cattle.
IT Agri assist in generating “Special Bulletin for Heat Stress for Livestock”and poultry farmers from the Decision Support System (DSS) and disseminated advisory through SMS & voice messages to the farmers and local stakeholders. By implementing this service it is anticipated that a large number farmers will be able to minimize reduction in milk production . Such information (i.e. bulletin for heat stress) and that application of such information would be more effective with sensitization/capacity building/training at the local level.
The inland fisheries could provide an important protein source for local communities, but poor management has led to large decline in local fish population. The prior management strategy of issuing short term advisories based on weather parameters are highly beneficial. IT Agri helps to provide fishery advisory based on temperature, oxygen level and under extreme weather conditions with close collaboration of the related organisation to solve the vexed problems mentioned above.
